The Leyburn Band is celebrating for a second time this – firstly for their success at the Hardraw Scar Contest where they won the Fourth and Unregistered Class.
New trophy
The band’s principal cornet player Emma Lundberg also won the newly donated trophy for best soloist in the class for her soprano cornet performance of ‘I Will Always Love You’.
The Leyburn Band had donated the new trophy in memory of Meg Butler, a member who sadly died last year, and so were delighted that one of their own players was the first to receive it.
10th anniversary
Leyburn has also been celebrating the 10th anniversary of their reformation in September 2003.
Although there has been a band in Leyburn on and off since 1841, it was only in 2003 that it really took off following a community meeting.
Local community
A spokesperson told 4BR: "Through the last ten years the band has built up its instrument stock with top quality instruments, created a library of about 1800 pieces and purchased new uniforms.
Never forgetting the support of the local community we play wherever and whenever we can and have also managed to help raise about £8,000 for local causes."

New work
The band will mark its 10th anniversary with a concert on Saturday 21st September, where they hope to perform a new work specially written for them by associate conductor Rebecca Lundberg.
The work, entitled ‘Pater Noster’ is a cornet solo and is to be performed by Rebecca’s sister Emma.
