Towcester Studio Band has just enjoyed a high octane weekend performing at the popular CarFest event, boosted by a huge audience and the arrival of a trio of new players.

Revved up

Led by MD Ian Knapton, the band performed on the main stage to more than 10,000 people as the 'warm-up' for singers Sophie Ellis-Bextor and Jessie J. They certainly got the crowd in the right mood with a selection of music that revved up the atmosphere.

The performance also included a particularly poignant moment as they gave a special tribute in memory of long-standing member Martin Mills, who recently passed away.

Debuts

The event also saw the debuts of their trio of new signings. Dai Rose has come in on solo cornet. He is the Musical Director of Towcester's newly formed Open Band which forms part of the wider Towcester Studio organisation and which aims to provide inclusive opportunities for musicians within the local community.

He has been joined by Karen Adams-Peace on baritone, while Tim Flach comes in on solo E-flat bass. The event also marked the final engagement for Holly Winspear before she starts her studies at the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire.

Exciting period

A spokesperson told 4BR: "We are delighted to welcome Dai, Karen and Tim and look forward to having them as part of what is proving to be an exciting period for the organisation.
