The Leicestershire Co-op (Snibston) Band made it three wins out of three at the recent Weston Super Mare Contest on the weekend.
First in 40 years
On the back of their earlier successes at the NEMBBA event and Midlands Regional Championships, the band secured the Weston title to complete their first ‘hat trick’ of consecutive contest victories in their 40 year history.
Awards
Playing Eric Ball’s Resurgam, they impressed Malcolm Brownbill, whilst euphonium player Steve Barham, took the soloist award, adding to a number of individual awards he has already pike dup this year.
It rounded off a good week for the band following a number of individual successes at the Coalville Festival of Music.
Stumbled
"I don’t think we’ve stumbled over any secret this year", commented MD Graham Jacklin to 4BR. "We’ve just been working really hard on the basics. An active membership of about 35 players helps though, as it means we always get good rehearsals and can be selective for competitions."

Thornton help
The band has also benefited from the help and advice given by euphonium star David Thornton recently too.
Graham added: "David has been helping us out again with some technique and musical pointers. Every time we see him we have learned a little more. His help has been invaluable."
