The South Yorkshire Police Band has announced the appointment of a new principal cornet player.
Immediate effect
Following Sam Fisher's return to Carlton Main, Kim Wear has taken up the position with immediate effect.
MD, Leigh Baker told 4BR that he was delighted to sign a player with a pedigree that includes spells with Stocksbridge and Chapeltown as well as with Black Dyke, Desford and CWS Glasgow amongst others.
First engagement
Kim led the band at his first official engagement at Brighouse March contest, where they came 7th amongst a strong field.
Their performance of newly commissioned street march ‘On the Beat’, which includes excerpts of ‘Crimewatch’, ‘Police Academy’, ‘Johnny Todd’ and ‘Every Step you Take’ by Leigh Baker was very well received, whilst Kim featured strongly in the hymn tune ‘Deep Harmony’ and the march, ‘Brilliant’.

Strong

On the piste
Although Kim's professional career as a top ski instructor based in the French Alps will take him away from the beautiful South Yorkshire scenery for parts of the year, he keen to make a mark with the band.
"It's a bit far to travel to rehearsals in Rotherham during the ski season but when I’m 'off piste' then my salopettes will be hung firmly behind the Police bandroom door," he joked.
