Webster to help launch new service

Cornet star to help launch new Music Service in Barnsley.

Webster

The newly named Barnsley Music Service will celebrate its launch in early May with the help of the twon's very own star performer, Roger Webster.

Newly formed

Roger will perform solos with the music services senior brass and wind bands and introduce the newly formed Barnsley Youth Orchestra in there first public performance.

I couldn’t think of a more inspirational player to have around the young people. Roger is not just a great cornet player, he is a super musician and someone for all young musicians to look up toAlex Francis

Team up

Roger will team up with former pupil and Brighouse & Rastrick cornet player Alex Francis, who is Head of Brass and Woodwind for the Music Service.

He told 4BR: "I was delighted that Roger was able to be guest soloist at this very special and exciting event. I couldn’t think of a more inspirational player to have around the young people. Roger is not just a great cornet player, he is a super musician and someone for all young musicians to look up to."

Clear objective

The Music Service was formerly known as the Performing Arts Development Service (PADS), but a recent restructure of staff has left the service with a clear objective of developing young musicians.

Talent

Barnsley Music Service boosts a very talented brass department and also includes Brighouse & Rastrick’s bass trombonist John Ingman who is also Wider Opportunities Co-Ordinator, solo trombonist Gary MacPhee and former cornet player Robert Horscroft.
