The Scottish Brass Band Association has released details of the forthcoming Scottish Open and Youth Championships that will take place in Perth's Concert Hall at the end of the month.
Scottish Open
The Scottish Open commences at 3.00pm on Saturday 29th November, supported by Besson Musical Instruments.
15 bands will perform Kenneth Downie's ‘St. Magnus’, first commissioned by the Scottish Brass Band Association for the 2004 European Brass Band Championships.
This year 5 bands from England and 9 from Scotland will compete for the Scottish Open title. The solo prize will be sponsored by 4barsrest. Adjudicators for the contest are Stephen Roberts and Chris Wormald.

The Scottish Challenge Cup meanwhile takes place on the same day with 8 bands playing own choice test pieces. The Adjudicators are Jason Katsikaris and Kevin Wadsworth. The event starts at 11.30am and follows on from the Challenge Shield Contest.

Scottish Youth Championships
After the senior bands have enjoyed their contesting day on the Saturday, Sunday sees the growing number of youth ensembles compete in the Scottish Youth Brass Band Championships.
Each of the bands will play an entertainment concert programme and will be judged by Les Neish, James Smith and Lynda Nicholson. They will adjudicate in the 4 sections of Novice, Development, Senior and Premier, each of which will see Gold, Silver or Bronze awards with a winner and runner-up prize in each section.
The event starts at 10.00am.
