Top brass comes to Durham

There will be a feast of brass entertainment in Durham over the next few weeks.

Audiences at Durham’s biggest International music festival are set to be blown away by Brass according to the organisers.

The Durham International Festival is set to dominate the world’s brass music calendar this July, as the 15-day celebration of current and emerging brass inspired music delivers some of the UK’s most creative musical programming from the 5th to the 20th July.

Award winning

The Festival is bringing a host of the world’s top award-winning names in brass and brass inspired music to quality venues across historic Durham City and County in North East England.

This year the festival will feature Brighouse & Rastrick, Canadian Brass, Hypnotic Brass Ensemble as well as Youngblood Brass Band.

Acts from more than five continents and 11 countries will entertain audiences at free and paid for venues across Durham and County Durham, including performers from Colombia, India, Macedonia, Australia and the United StatesOrganisers

Melting pot

The festival is a melting pot of music that people can dip into at their own leisure. Audiences can satisfy their curiosity and try out different types of music that have caught their ear over the years.

"Brass is here to stay," said Neil Hillier, strategic manager Arts, Heritage and Culture services for Durham County Council.

Neil added: "It is a festival doused in heritage with the potential to become a true world beater and a musical institution in the Brass world."

Perfect place

Melanie Sensicle, chief executive of the County Durham Tourism Partnership, said: "Durham is the perfect place to host an international Brass music festival and this summer’s event will see Durham city and county become one of the UK’s must-visit destinations for a live music and entertainment experience."
