Bass player extraordinaire, Phil Johnston, showed nothing but class to be crowned the Canterbury Champion of Champions at the CPBBA solo contest held at the Great Hall in Christchurch on the 24 May.
With a top line up of 15 of Canterbury's best Phil won both the slow melody and Air and Variation section gaining favour with the two adjudicators Steve Miles and Andy Williams.
Phil said: “I am over the moon to win today especially since the standard of playing was so high.”
Michael Stone claimed the Open section bragging rights with the Open Champion of Champion Trophy to put on his mantelpiece.
