The Kirklees Composition Award in conjunction with The University of Salford has been won by Ludovic Neurohr, who hails from the Valais region of Switzerland.
He is currently studying composition under Professor Peter Graham at the University. The competition was adjudicated by Professor David King, Dr. Mick Wilson, Dr. Alan Williams and David Horsfield of Kirklees Music.
Ludovic, who is a cornetist the Treize Etoiles Band from Sion when at home in Switzerland, received an engraved certificate plus a trophy and publishing contract with Kirklees4BR
Libra
His composition 'Libra' took the award after a sparkling performance by the Adelphi Brass Band conducted by Howard Evans, a former graduate and now visiting lecturer at the University.
The performance was part of “Celebration”, a concert in Peel Hall Salford on 30th April to showcase the talents of final year students. At the same event the Lomas Achievement Prize and the Anne Welsh Memorial Awards were presented.
Belles of Brass
Ludovic, who is a cornetist the Treize Etoiles Band from Sion when at home in Switzerland, received an engraved certificate plus a trophy and publishing contract with Kirklees. 'Libra', which is sub-titled 'Bell(es) of Brass' will prove very popular with bands at home and abroad.
Original music
The award which has been running now for seven years has helped young composers to get their original music into print and one of last year’s finalists, 'An Elgar Portrait' by Daniel Price has been chosen by James Scott for the Pontin’s Brass Band Championships later this year — proof indeed of the value of this work at Salford.
