Corry to make Swiss reconnection

The MD of 1st Old Boys Band will head to Switzerland to meet up with old friends for some light and shadow music making.

Jonathan Corry will link up with his Swiss friend for the trip

1st Old Boys Band conductor, Dr Jonathan Corry is to reconnect with Swiss friend Christoph Liechti to lead a weekend of intensive rehearsals with the Salvation Army's 'Brass of Praise' group band.

As well as conducting the group Christoph is a former trombone student of the Royal Academy of Music in London and is currently responsible for Music and Creative Arts for the Salvation Army in Switzerland.

First connection

The pair first connected over a decade ago when Jonathan was guest conductor of the CMVS New Year course and took Enfield Citadel SA Band on a successful tour to Switzerland.

Brass of Praise is the National Brass Band of the Salvation Army in Switzerland and each year performs six high profile concerts. It celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2024 and their programme this year is titled, 'Light & Shadow'.

Honour

Jonathan told 4BR: "It is a real honour to link up with Christoph and the band once more and it is such an exciting and meaningful programme, with works such as 'Out of Darkness' (Venables); 'Wake the Dawn' (Collier); 'Almighty Love' (Ramel); 'The Candle of the Lord' (Graham) and 'Light Song' (Smith) and many others."

In 2024 the band gave a concert to help celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Salvation Army in Budapest.
