Yet another brass section of one of Britain's major professional orchestras has been boosted by the addition of a performer with a proud brass band background.
Kaitlin Wild, who played with the Jaguar Land Rover Band and the National Youth Brass Band of Great Britain has been appointed Principal Second Trumpet with the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra.
Banding family
Hailing from a well known brass banding family, Kaitlin was also supported by the Northampton Music and Performing Arts Trust and studied at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama as well as at the Royal Academy of Music.
In addition to her new role, she also plays with Onyx Brass and the Septura Brass Ensemble and has regularly freelanced with all the major London orchestras.
Kaitlin joins another brass band alumnus in the CBSO ranks in Section Leader Jason Lewis, who played with the National Youth Brass Band of Wales, as well as Principal Trumpet Jonathan Quirk who started his musical career in banding.
Busy schedule
Speaking to 4BR Kaitlin said: "I'm so happy to join such a prestigious orchestra and in a section with wonderful players. It's been a long audition process, but the hard work has paid off.
The orchestra has such a busy schedule — starting with Brahms this week, a great CBSO Brass Concert at Birmingham Town Hall on 2nd March and then tours to Germany and Japan.
She added: "Brass banding really helped me get here — the support from my parents, teachers such as Paul Cosh, players like James Fountain and my partner who pays in the RPO. My mum has already booked tickets come to just about every performance."
