There is yet more success for the Royal Northern College of Music to enjoy following a highly successful International Brass Band Festival held last weekend in Manchester.
Several of its alumni have been shortlisted for a prestigious Royal Philharmonic Society Award, including renowned conductor Alpesh Chauhan OBE and vocalist/composer Alice Zawadzki.
Jo Yee Cheung's Olympias Music Foundation is also shortlisted in the Impact category for the organisation's work championing diversity in music, whilst the LGBTQ+ choir The Sunday Boys, a singing group founded by RNCM composition graduate Michael Betteridge, is listed in the Inspiration Award category (alongside Derwent Brass Band) decided by public vote.
Graduate nominations
RNCM graduates also feature in every Ensemble category including Riot Ensemble whose founding Co Artistic Director Adam Swayne is Deputy Head of Keyboard Studies at the College.
The Manchester Classical Festival, a collaboration between The Hallé, BBC Philharmonic, Manchester Camerata, and RNCM alumni Manchester Collective, is shortlisted in the Series and Events category.
RNCM Innovate Fellow Jasdeep Singh Degun has also been shortlisted in the Instrumentalist category and for his Large-Scale Composition, 'Orpheus'.
