The National Coal Mining Museum in Wakefield will host the return of the 'Bold as Brass' contest later this month.
Held in association with Brass Bands England, it celebrates the historic link between the industry and brass band music making and takes place on Saturday 25th June.
Time to enter
There is still time to enter, with at present six bands taking part: Bedford Town, Dodworth Colliery, Dinnington Colliery, Enderby Concert, Enderby Youth Band and Shirland Miners.
Each will take part in a 6-minute march across the museum site before performing their 20-minute set.
The audience will have the chance to cast their vote in the 'People's Choice' competition, whilst Brass Foundations Education Specialist, Sheila Allen, will adjudicate the entertainment set.
Prizes will be awarded to the overall winner, 'Most Entertaining Band', 'Best Soloist of Group Feature' as well as other prizes
Perfect site
A spokesperson told 4BR: "The aim is to offer a modern reinvention of the traditional march and hymn contest. The National Coal Mining Museum site lends itself to this perfectly.
In addition to the fantastic music, there will be street food available and the opportunity to see a silk banner, synonymous with mining heritage, being painted."
No booking or registering is required, and the National Coal Mining Museum for England will also be open as usual to explore.
