Tameside ready for Whit Friday contest day

Tameside is ready to welcome the bands and supporters at each of its 11 venues this year.

Whit Friday
There are 11 contest venues on the Tameside circuit this year

The Friends of Tameside Whit Friday Brass Band Contest and Tameside Council will oversee eleven contest day venues.

Stalybridge Celtic has returned to the circuit for the first time since 2019 with a first prize of £1,000 on offer. The biggest top prize will be fought over at Mossley, with the winner picking up £1,500.

There is a generous prize fund to entice the bands with a first prize of £2,000 for the overall champion. There are also awards for the top ranked bands in the First to Fourth Sections as well as for Local Area Champions and Youth Sections.

Tour of Tameside

As reported the popular 'Hell on the Fell' running event is also taking place in Stalybridge starting at 7.15pm. Traffic will be stopped to allow the runners to go past safely on Huddersfield Road.

Bands with players under 16

The organisers are also making competing bands aware that they have to submit a BOPA return to Tameside Council's Education Welfare team following the event.

In order to comply with legal procedures for public events, bands that contain players of compulsory school age (5-16 yrs) must complete registration online and give the band name. It will also ensure that a band does not have to repeat the process at each individual contest.
