Mets ready for 125th anniversary

Castletown Metropolitan Silver Band will be celebrating its 125th anniversary with the help of some great brass banding friends.

Castletown
The band will joined by all other brass bands on the island

Castletown Metropolitan Silver Band from the Isle of Man will celebrate its 125th anniversary next month.

A special Festival of Brass will take place on Saturday 18th June, with Musical Director Ian Astill, telling 4BR that the band will join forces with the Rotary Club of Rushen & Western Mann to host the occasion.

All of the island's brass bands will join 'The Mets' for an afternoon filled with music and celebration.

Icing on the cake

He said: "Brass bands have always been popular on the island and have moved with the times over the years.

The event will be the icing on the cake when all seven bands perform together to close the occasion. All this and we have The Brass Machine and Hazard Mouse to play fantastic party music in the evening. It's going to be a great event for all the family."

Support

Support has come from a variety of sponsors, with James Geldart, Managing Director of headline supporter, Santander International's Isle of Man Branch adding: "Music and the arts have always been an important part of life on the Isle of Man, so we're delighted to be sponsoring the event.

Santander International is committed to supporting our local community and this is a great initiative encompassing the tradition of brass on the Island with modern talent."
