A concert to celebrate the life of Rhys Owens, who for 30 years was principal trumpet of the Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra will take place on Sunday 8th May at the BBC Hoddinott Hall at Cardiff's Millennium Centre (3.00pm)
Support
Friends and colleagues have already raised over £8,500 for the Wirral Group of the Motor Neurone Disease Association which was a constant source of support for the family during his illness and following his death on March 26th.
All proceeds from the event will go to the Motor Neurone Disease Association (Wales).
Presented by Alex Humphreys, and given his rich brass background, the concert will feature musicians from well-known brass bands and ensembles from across Wales, including his friends from the BBC National Orchestra of Wales and the Orchestra of Welsh National Opera.
Brass
Also featured will be BTM and Lewis Merthyr Bands as well as students from the National Youth Orchestra of Wales and Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama.
The Welshman began his musical career in the brass band world and played with both Lewis Merthyr and BTM as well as becoming the principal cornet of the National Youth Brass Band and National Youth Orchestras of Wales aged 17.
Taught at Chetham's School of Music before becoming a graduate of the Royal College of Music, he was a brass finalist in the prestigious BBC Young Musician of the Year and the LSO Shell competitions.
Rhys joined the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic in 1991 as fourth trumpet and was promoted to Section Principal in 1998.
