With the Queen's 2019 Birthday Honours List recently announced, one wonderful lady was recently presented with her British Empire Medal.
Adrienne Howell from Mere in Wiltshire has been revered for her work teaching brass and forming Mere Manor Brass with her late husband Bernard more than 50 years ago.
Her work and dedication was recognised in the 2019 New Year's Honours for more than half a century of service to the local community.
Thousands of players
With long term connections to the Wessex Brass Band Association (both being Life Vice Presidents) and many bands in the Wiltshire, Dorset, Somerset and Hampshire areas, her dedication has benefited literally thousands of players.
She has also been fully involved in local community work, including 20 years as Director and Trustee of the annual Literacy Festival, Mere and District Link Scheme, Mere Drama Society and the Mere Rivers Group.

Presentation
The formal presentation was made at Salisbury Cathedral a few weeks ago, followed by an invitation to a Buckingham Palace Garden Party, where she was accompanied by her proud niece, Julia Woods.
The sun shone and whilst enjoying afternoon tea Adrienne listened to the Band of the Scots Guards conducted by Major Ian Johnson and couldn't resist going and having a chat! (above)
