Hemingway
The work draws inspiration from the colourful life of the American writer Ernest Hemingway — a man who was in every sense of the phrase 'A Force of Nature'.
The concerto reflects upon moments and aspects of his extraordinary life — from his fascination of bullfighting which he wrote about in his book 'Death in the Afternoon', to his earlier termination to find his way and make his mark in the world — which he did be serving as an ambulance e driver in the Italian Front in the First World War.
The aspects of his life are explored in the excitement of the opening movement, 'Matador', and the reflective central section ' Wayfarer'.
The final section also reflects on another huge love of his life — that of the sea and the thrill of big game finishing aboard his boat 'Pilar', cutting through the sea in chasing his quarry.
