Ben Goldscheider who recently performed the Edward Gregson 'French Horn Concerto' with Tredegar Band at this year's RNCM International Brass Band Festival, has gained further high-profile acclaim by being short-listed for a Royal Philharmonic Society Award.
Instrumentalist Award
He has been nominated in the RPS 'Instrumentalist' category alongside pianist Isata Kanneh-Mason and cellist Laura van der Heijden. All three are former BBC Young Musician of the Year finalists.
Nominated for a 'Sky Arts Breakthrough Award' in 2024, his premiere of Gavin Higgins' 'French Horn Concerto' helped it win a 2024 Ivor Novello Award.
He recently performed the work in Oslo with the Norwegian Radio Orchestra, before heading to the RNCM where he gave a masterclass with students ahead of his acclaimed performance of the Gregson Concerto with Tredegar.
RNCM and Katrina
The RPS Awards will be presented at Royal Birmingham Conservatoire on Thursday 6th March, with Ben joined in the nominations by Katrina Marzella-Wheeler who has been shortlisted for the public vote, 'Inspiration Award'.
Also nominated in the 'Series and Events' category is the RNCM's 'Future is Green' — its year long programme of activity reflecting on climate and environmental impact.
Benefit of others
Speaking about the awards, RPS Chief Executive James Murphy said: "We often see classical music make news due to setbacks and funding cuts.
Yet a resoundingly different story is being forged by musicians nationwide who — whatever they face — resiliently, creatively keep giving everything they have for the benefit of others."
