With the famous Whit Friday march contests on the musical horizon, Mode for… Publishing will be playing its part in encouraging a new approach to an old tradition.
New prize
Mode for… Director, Tabby Kerwin, who is judging at the event at the Diggle contest told 4BR: "I'm delighted to sponsor a new prize at Diggle which is designed to encourage the performance of new music.
There are, of course, some incredible traditional marches which will sound around the villages of Saddleworth and Tameside, but at Diggle there will be a prize of £100 for the highest placed band performing a march which has been published since 2016."
Tabby added: "At Mode for… it has always been our wish to encourage new music and musicians, so this prize will hopefully encourage something a little different at Diggle, alongside all the traditional choices.
Hopefully this may just give bands a little incentive to visit this great contest and play something different as a little break from playing the same piece all night, whilst encouraging the performance of some newer music!"
