The brass students at the Brisbane Griffith Conservatorium of Music were recently treated to a visit by Besson euphonium virtuoso Steven Mead, as he directed them in a rehearsal this week after his adjudication duties at the Australian National Championships.
Steve put them through their paces warming them up with some Philip Wilby hymn arrangements before working on 'Suite Gothique', 'Bohemian Rhapsody' and the euphonium solo, 'Be My Love'.
Steven also spent the day carrying out masterclasses and workshops with the students before finishing with an hour long solo and duet recital with his wife Misa.
Wonderful
He told 4BR: "It was a wonderful way to round off the trip to Australia. There is such a buzz about this place under Howard Taylor and it was a delight that both Misa and I could visit and experience that for ourselves."
In response Howard added: "To have Steven with us was a real coup. His passion for brass music making is undimmed and that was fed through to our students."
