The BrassPass 'Band of the Year' contest has announced its line-up of adjudicators

The organisers of the forthcoming BrassPass 'Band of the Year' contest to be held at Manchester's Stoller Hall on Saturday 22nd June, has announced its international panel of adjudicators.

The all important open adjudication decisions will be made by Dutch composer Jan De Haan, the Norwegian conductor, composer and arranger Reid Gilje and the vastly experienced Norwegian conductor, composer and arranger Tom Brevik.

Highest level

Paul Hindmarsh, part of the contest organising committee and responsible for jury selection and criteria told 4BR: "The contest, which is striving for excellence in every department, wanted international judges with the musical pedigree, experience and skills of the highest level.

I'm glad to say we succeeded with the selection. All are highly experienced judges with a wealth of musical experience, talent and knowledge, and will bring the highest level of judicial integrity to the contest."

Line-up

The contest line-up sees National Champion Foden's, British Open Champion Cory, Regional Champions, Brighouse & Rastrick, Tredegar and Flowers, as well as the top-ten ranked bands of Black Dyke, Carlton Main Frickley, Fairey and Whitburn provide a 30 minute own-choice selection of music that must include a solo.

The open adjudication system will see the trio of judges individually rank the bands from 1st to 9th, with the band with the lowest aggregate score claiming the title.

In the event of a tie, the higher placed soloist position of the respective bands will be the deciding factor.

Renowned

BrassPass MD Martin Gernon told 4BR: "I'm very grateful to Paul for his assistance and guidance in jury selection, and thrilled we have not only attracted the very best bands to this contest, but also such renowned adjudicators.

The event is almost sold out, but we now have some additional seats have been made available for sale. These will also go quickly, so anyone wishing to attend should grab their seats whilst they are still available."

He added: "This contest is set to become a major annual event, and as such, next year's adjudication panel has already been selected and confirmed."
