4BR has been informed of the death of Jack Malpass, who recently passed away peacefully at Crosshouse Hospital in Kilmarnock surrounded by his family.
A remarkable bandsman, he founded Loudoun Youth Band back in the 1970s, which quickly enjoyed success in winning the Fourth Section of the Scottish Championship in 1977 followed by the Third and Second Sections the following years.
They also claimed a fourth place at the 1979 Second Section National Championship of Great Britain and enjoyed Championship Section victories at the Strathclyde Charities Contest in 1980 and again in 1981. They returned to the Second Section National Finals in 1985 under Jack's baton and continued to compete until 1989.

Legacy
His legacy is still to be found today with the countless players who he instilled a passion for music in through his kindness and inspirational teaching in the Ayrshire area.
Despite illness he was proud to accept his 50 Year Membership of the Scottish Brass Band Association in December 2018 surrounded by members of Kilmarnock Brass.
The thoughts of the brass banding movement are with his wife Morag, and family, Diane, Gordon, Diane, Amy and Andrew at this sad time.
