Brass for Africa donation boost

The work of the Brass for Africa Charity has received a wonderful boost with the imminent arrival of over 200 instruments.

Cleobury
Rob Stew enjoyed his trip to the band to take delivery of the instruments.

The Brass for Africa Charity will be benefiting from the arrival of over 200 instruments thanks to wonderful donations led by Shropshire based Cleobury Mortimer Concert Brass.

It is hoped the instruments will arrive in Kampala before Christmas in time to help hundreds more children enjoy brass band music making.

Trigger

The latest shipment was triggered after Band Chairman Donna Tracy found out more about the charity's inspirational work and felt that spare instruments that have served the band well in the past would find a new lease of life and purpose.

They include a much loved euphonium which helped 17 year old Alex Smith to enjoy playing as an enthusiastic 11 year old and which he hopes will now inspire another youngster to enjoy learning music.

With help and donations from the likes of Tom & Will at ProZone, as well as the Warwick Music Hub, the team at Warwick Music, Mark Bousie through Glossopdale School, Morecambe Band, Alwyn Green and many others, the instruments are now on their way.

This is another amazing donation to the charity, which continues to undertake amazing work. The charity has grown and now supports more than 1000 children and young people in Uganda every week through brass music educationRob Stew

Handover

The handover came at a recent rehearsal when conductor Andy Culshaw invited Rob Stew from Brass for Africa to the meet the band (and enjoy a festive blow in the process) and collect the donated instruments.

He told 4BR: "This is another amazing donation to the charity, which continues to undertake amazing work.

The charity has grown and now supports more than 1000 children and young people in Uganda every week through brass music education."
