Plenty of prizes to play for at Foden's annual Solo, Duet & Quartet contest day

There really is something to play for at Foden's annual contest — from the youngest to the oldest and all stops in between — including a great new family duet category...

Foden's
The competition continues to attract entrants of all levels abilities and nationalities

Foden's have announced details of their Open Solo, Duet & Quartet Competitions, which will take place on Saturday 3rd November at Sandbach Boys School.

The eighth annual event continues to grow in popularity, and is now rightly regarded as one of the leading competitions of its kind in the UK.

With sponsorship links to Besson Musical Instruments and other businesses, organisations and individuals, Foden's are able to provide a generous prize list and trophies in each of the 16 classes — from beginners to veterans.

Young and old

Last year, Open Solo champion, Paul Bennett, deservedly took the Blue Riband prize for the second time, whilst 5 year old Archie Pannell took his first competitive bow.

This year, to encourage further family participation, Foden's will introduce an additional 'Parent & Child' duet class, which will give family members the opportunity to perform together.

There is also hope that there will be even more quartet entrants this year — as the brass band art form starts to gain something of a renaissance.

New work

Composer Jonathan Bates will write a brand new work for the winners in the '11 Years & Under' category — so make sure any combination you can think of enters. All they have to do is play two verses of any hymn from the famous 'Red Hymn' book.

Meanwhile, Lee Morris, of Creative Brass, will once again write a solo for the winner of the Bryan Tait Trophy in the '17-19 Slow Melody', with the trophy being presented this year by Bryan's son Philip.

With top class accompanists and adjudicators, who have a wealth of experience and knowledge, it is hoped that everyone enjoys and benefits from taking part in the competition — so make sure you get your entry in!
