The world of football recently paid its respects to the memory of those lost in the 1958 Munich air disaster by attending a special memorial event held at Old Trafford, the home of Manchester United Football Club.

Eight players of the famous 'Busby Babes' team lost their lives amongst the 44 killed at Munich-Riem airport. The 60th anniversary service saw Elliott Brass, an ensemble of leading players, led by Wingates MD Paul Andrews accompany the event.

Strong connection

Elliott Brass was formed as an extension of the respected brass repair and renovation company, Brass Toff.

Over a number of years Paul has established a strong connection to the club through his Brass Toff's ensemble performing at the club's annual Christmas Carol service, and was therefore honoured to have been asked to take part in an event marked around the globe.

Poignant reminder

In a poignant reminder of the day exactly 60 years ago, the Elliott Brass Ensemble performed on the famous pitch as heavy snow fell and memories, led by survivors Sir Bobby Charlton, 80, and Harry Gregg, 85 were recalled in a moving service of remembrance.

"It was very fitting, beautiful service: So powerful, emotional,"current club captain Michael Carrick told Manchester United Television.

"It was emotional sitting next to Sir Bobby and coming to terms with what he's been through. It was tough but a pleasure to be part of."

Abide with Me

At the end of the service the band led the crowd in the hymn 'Abide with Me' and later performed 'I'll Walk with God' as current first team manager Jose Mourinho, his players and staff were clapped out of the stadium.
