The City of Chester Band recently welcomed two young Swiss players to their ranks for an extended musical stay — continuing a well-established tradition that has seen players from all around the world enjoy time with the north-west band.
The latest temporary recruits were Julian Burkhard (euphonium) from Beromünster and Andrin Buehler (trombone) from Hohenrain — both in the canton of Lucerne. Julian plays in Musikgesellschaft Eich, while Andrin is a member of Musikgesellschaft Hohenrain.
Whit Friday
Not only did the duo enjoy rehearsals under MD Ewan Easton, but were delighted to be able to play with the band at the famous Whit Friday march contests (above) — playing in nine venues across Saddleworth, as well as meeting up with other Swiss friends from the trio of visiting bands playing at the contest this year.
The duo was also thrilled to be able to hear Black Dyke perform at Denshaw before they rounded off their memorable day.
On their return to Switzerland Andrin will transfer to a school where he will work on a farm for 4 days with 1 day spent in the classroom, while Julian is to begin a course studying economics.
We wish to place on record our appreciation of Andrin and Julian's playing and friendship over the past few months and wish them every success in the future. They will always be welcome back here with usCity of Chester
