Players from Tredegar Band recently made the short trip across the Heads of Valleys road to help inspire the next generation of young performers taking their first musical steps with near neighbours Abergavenny Borough Band.
Develop skills
Supported by Ty Cerdd, Arts Council of Wales, Welsh Government and the National Lottery, the weekend of tuition and workshops was led by music teacher, Lana Tingay and comprised a series of youth development classes for youngsters of varying abilities to help develop musical skills, personal confidence and team building understanding.
Almost 50 youngsters thoroughly enjoyed themselves over the two days, with the event culminating in a 'Buzzers & Blowers' Sunday lunchtime concert and one from the youth band in the evening.
Support
Tredegar Band Manager Matthew Shaw told 4BR: "It was a great event, excellently organised by Lara Tingay and Abergavenny Borough Band with the wonderful support of Joy Dando, Head Teacher of Victoria Primary School in Abersychan.
There is so much musical raw talent in the area that over the next few years Abergavenny will be bursting at the seams with great young players. Everyone had a great time, and there were plenty of real stars in the making."
