Australia's youngest A-Grade band, Central Coast Brass, has continued its excellent competition form by recently winning the New South Wales A-Grade state title for the second year in succession.
Formed in 2011 with the view to providing an outlet for elite brass players on the Central Coast, the band is comprised players, all of whom subscribe wholeheartedly to the motto of 'Pride, Excellence, Commitment'.
Dedication
A spokesperson told 4BR: "The three words epitomise the culture that founding band director, Conrad Curry has attempted to instil in the group. It's a culture of dedication to and enjoyment of quality brass band playing."
They added: "These core values are highlighted in the difficult repertoire that he has selected throughout our short history, including Thomas Doss' 'Spiriti', Philip Wilby's 'Paganini Variations' and Peter Graham's 'The Triumph of Time'."
Titles
Aside from claiming the 2015 and 2016 State Championships, the band also won the 2016 NSW East Coast Championship in June this year, and came second in the A-Grade section of the Australian National Band Championships in March.
Central Coast Brass has also been able to attract a number of outstanding international players, many of whom have played with leading bands such as Grimethorpe, Black Dyke, Brighouse & Rastrick, Foden's and Leyland.
The band has also been able to overcome set back too. When Conrad Curry was unable to conduct at the 2016 State Championships, they were able to call on the help of Australian banding legend Mark Ford, who led them to victory.
