4BR has been informed that the final preparations are being put in place for the 164th British Open Championship which takes place this weekend (Saturday 10th September) at Symphony Hall in Birmingham.

Sold out

Once again tickets were sold out in advance, with an audience of brass band lovers from around the banding globe sure to be packed into their seats for the action on Peter Graham's 'The Triumph of Time' as the first band takes to the stage at 10.00am.

Study scores of 'The Triumph of Time', (£10) and commemorative programmes (£5) will be available in the foyer for people to purchase along with British Open polo shirts.

Thanks

A British Open spokesperson told 4BR: "Once again it promises to be a wonderful event. Our thanks go to composer Peter Graham and Gramercy Music and to David Mullholland of Galloways Printers for the production of the scores and programmes.

Karyn and Martin Mortimer would also like to thank Besson for its continued sponsorship support and to all the volunteers who will be working tirelessly throughout the day to ensure everything runs smoothly."

10.00am start

The draw for the contest will take place at 8.45am with the event getting under way promptly at 10.00am, so listeners have been reminded to give themselves plenty of time to get to the centre of Birmingham and to get to the hall.

David Hayward will once again be the cool headed master of ceremonies and compere, whilst the Birmingham Citadel Salvation Army Band will be performing in the main foyer. As part of the results ceremony, the 2016 recipients of the Harry Mortimer Memorial Trust will be announced.

BBC Listen to the Band will record both the contest day and Sunday's Gala Concert for 'Listen to the Band' programmes presented by Frank Renton featuring Black Dyke, Cory and Foden's. Highlights of the winning performance will be broadcast on Tuesday 13th September, with the concert highlights featured on the 20th and 27th.
