The Welsh Open Entertainment Championship has confirmed that its 2027 event is to be live-streamed for the first time.

First held in 1998, the contest heralds the start of the domestic contesting season in Wales, and in recent years has become a popular open event for bands across the UK with its qualification link to the British Open Spring Festival.

Held at the Riverfront Theatre in Newport, the 2027 event will take place on 21st February, with bands battling to claim the superb Welsh Miners Challenge Cup and £1,000 first prize, as well as a host of other awards.

Worldwide audience

Speaking about the news, Contest Organiser Dean Evans told 4BR: "The Welsh Open has become such a popular event with bands and audiences alike and we are delighted to be able to build on that with a worldwide audience able to enjoy the performances."
