There was plenty of fine music making to be heard at the recent Stanley Entertainment Contest, which took place at Tanfield School in Stanley in County Durham.
The adjudicators John Doyle and Martin Armstrong also enjoyed themselves as the bands in the four sections produced well thought out programmes. Houghton Area Youth conducted by Brian Adams took the 'Most Entertaining Band of the Day' award.
Spoils
NASUWT Concert captured the A Section spoils under MD Andrew Hunter to carry on their run of excellent 2015 form that recently saw them compete at the Second Section National Finals in Cheltenham (above).
In the B Section there was victory for Ferryhill Town, with Houghton Area Youth taking the Section C honours and Whitworth Park School the winner's trophy in Section D.
Contest spokesperson Hugh Stephenson told 4BR: "This year's contest was a great success at this new venue and will return here again next year."
Impressed
He added: "The adjudicators were impressed with the standard of the bands — especially the school and youth bands — and we would like to thank Geneva Instruments, the County Durham Community Foundation and the Catherine Cookson Trust for their financial support."
