The six finalists in the Foden's Band Composition Competition have been revealed — and you can get to hear them.

The Foden’s Band has announced that the judging panel of Philip Sparke, Dr Peter Meechan and Michael Fowles have taken the difficult decision to narrow down the list of compositions submitted in the ‘23 & Under’ category of their 2014 Composers Competition, run in partnership with the Royal Northern College of Music.

Six finalists

The six chosen compositions will now go through to the live masterclass final to be held at the RNCM in Manchester on the 15th June commencing at 7.15pm.

Foden's will perform all the compositions in an open workshop with the judges giving their feedback on each.

Workshop

Speaking about the forthcoming concert Foden’s Band Manager Mark Wilkinson told 4BR: "The band has thoroughly enjoyed working on the compositions to be performed at the RNCM.

The concert/workshop is open to all and we are hoping that up and coming, as well as established composers will attend to hear from our expert judges about how to write and score for brass bands.

After the six works have been performed Foden's will give a short concert whilst the judges deliberate before announcing the winner."

Tickets

Tickets for the event are priced at £5 for adults and £4.50 for senior citizens / students / under 18's and can be purchased via the RNCM on 0161 907 5555

Foden's will perform all the compositions with the judges giving their feedback on each. The winner will be announced at the end of the evening4BR
