The Scottish Brass Band Association has offered its support to the 2013 St Andrews Festival of Brass, which returns for its second year between 13th – 19th November.
Collaboration
The festival brings together professional, student and community musicians from band and orchestral backgrounds for a week of master-classes, talks and brass music for and by ensembles of all sizes.
The festival is held in collaboration with the Heisenberg Ensemble, Scottish Brass Band Association, Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, St Mary’s Music School and the Scottish Chamber Orchestra — the orchestra in residence at the University.
Musicians
Meanwhile, the list of distinguished musicians appearing at the festival represents some of the best brass that Scotland and the rest of the United Kingdom have to offer.
A wide variety of events will take place at various locations, including Younger Hall, the Pettigrew Museum and the Stewart Room, with many offering free admission.
Diversity
A spokesperson told 4BR: "This event is an exciting addition to the many celebrations of brass music which are currently being enjoyed in Scotland.
The diversity of ensembles and initiatives included in the programme really do offer something for everyone – from conducting workshops, performance master-classes and pre-concert talks to book readings and interactive open rehearsals."

Significant performances
They added: "There are also a range of significant performances, including the Scottish Chamber Orchestra and St Andrews Brass – one of Scotland’s growing number of university brass bands who will perform with jazz pianist Richard Michael, in his interpretation of Gershwin’s ‘Rhapsody in Blue’.
There is also an opportunity to hear Howarth’s stunning arrangement of Mussorgsky’s ‘Pictures at an Exhibition’, which will be performed by Kingdom Brass."
