The trio of National Youth Brass Bands of Scotland (NYBBS) are currently enjoying their 2013 Summer Courses.

Talented

The talented young players are working with a respected line up of tutors, led by guest conductor Russell Gray together with guest tuba soloist Les Neish.

The week’s course will conclude on Saturday (10th August) with all three bands performing in concert at Perth Concert Hall starting at 3.00pm.

130 musicians

The 130 young brass and percussion musicians that make up the National Children’s Band, National Youth Reserve Band and National Youth Brass have been working hard on a broad range of repertoire.

A spokesperson told 4BR: "The courses have helped to develop their musicianship and technique, welcoming the opportunity for them to learn from the vast experience being offered by the conductors, tutors and guest personnel on the courses."

Extra activities

Those include a range of extra activities to nurture the young player’s musical education and wider experience.

It has seen solo competitions, masterclasses on playing and conducting by Russell Gray, informal concerts and a lecture/demonstration by Anthony George. He led a fascinating presentation to entitled ‘Brassing Around – The Evolution of Brass Instruments and their Players’.

It’s going to be a concert that demonstrates the wealth of young musical talent available in Scotland through the on-going growth of the brass band genreSBBA

Fitting conclusion

The Scottish Brass Band Association hope the celebration concert will provide a fitting conclusion to an exciting week of music-making, personal development, friendship and fun.

A SBBA spokesperson added: "The members look forward to welcoming the general public, friends and family to come and enjoy their eclectic programme of music and featuring guest soloist Les Neish.

It’s going to be a concert that demonstrates the wealth of young musical talent available in Scotland through the on-going growth of the brass band genre."
