The British Army Brass Band was certainly the stars on parade at the second of the Royal Military School of Music, Kneller Hall concert series last weekend.
Hottest day
On what was the hottest day of the year in London, the band put on their uniforms, marched down the road and took to the bandstand while the audience lapped up plenty of sun and ice cream!
The concert featured the talents of soloists Brett and Baker and Les Neish, both of whom wowed the large crowds with their superb playing.
Amazed
Les amazed everyone with his renditions of ‘Swing Low Sweet Chariot’ – appropriate in the shadow of the Twickenham Stadium and ‘Czardas’, whilst Brett sparkled on Gordon Langford’s ‘Trombone Rhapsody’ plus the appropriately named ‘Fantastic Polka’.
Played their part
Captain Justin Matthews, who conducted some of the music on the day, told 4BR: "It has been a challenge gathering the right players from the Corps of Army Music who are located across the UK in bands with busy diaries meaning rehearsal time was limited.
But every one of the performers played their part in putting on an amazing concert."

In house soloists
The band themselves provided a number of outstanding soloists too, with Sergeant Rich Evans of the Band of The King’s Division delivering a scintillating ‘Children of Sanchez’ on flugel.
The popular series continues throughout the Summer, with Army Big Band and a Rock and Pop Concert on the 20th July, plus the traditional ‘Last Night of the Proms’ concert on 24th July.
