The death has been announced of former Yorkshire Building Society flugel horn player Iwan Williams. He was aged 39.
Leading players
Rightly regarded as one of the leading players of his generation and one of the finest flugel horn players to grace the modern brass band movement, he died following the re-emergence of the brain tumour that cut short his playing career in 2006.
Iwan was an integral part of the remarkable rise to prominence of the Yorkshire Building Society Band under the baton of David King, providing the Australian with a central cog of proud Welsh excellence in the very heart of his ensemble.
Gifted
A gifted soloist he released a critically acclaimed recording entitled, ‘Mellow Moments’ which highlighted his intuitive ability to play with natural lyricism and tonal beauty. The CD was nominated for 4BR Solo CD of the Year in 2005.
Title successes
His performances with the YBS Band helped them to many of their major title successes, including the European Championship. He was included in the 4BR Band of the Year in 2005.
A fine, multi talented musician he had also become a respected adjudicator, using his experience at the National Eisteddfod of Wales.

Funeral details
Iwan's funeral will take place at 12 noon on Monday 24th September at Christ Church, Llandinorwig, Deiniolen, Gwynedd LL55 3HH followed by burial at Macpelah Cemetery. Family flowers only.
