Tredegar's solo horn player Chris Davies is set to make his final appearance with the Masters champions at the British Open in Birmingham on the weekend, before moving to Scotland to start work with one of the world’s leading investment management firms.
First class graduate
The Oxford University first class honours graduate has taken up a post with Baillie Gifford in Edinburgh, a new career move that will see him take a short break from playing commitments.
The player has been an integral part of Tredegar’s recent success under Ian Porthouse, as well as becoming the first brass winner in over a quarter of a century of the prestigious Blue Riband Solo Competition at the National Eisteddfod of Wales.
Good fortune
He told 4BR: "I’ve had the good fortune of playing under many conductors at Tredegar, but by far the best thing about my time has been the warmth of the people associated with the band. I will certainly miss the friendship, the atmosphere and the music making."

Remarkable
MD, Ian Porthouse added his personal tribute. "Chris has been a remarkable performer. He is such an intelligent musician that it’s frightening at times, but his input and especially his performances with us have never been anything less than outstanding.
Whatever he does he will be a success at – and we wish him well."
