The Dronfield Band took the honours at this year’s popular Battle of the Bands contest in Chesterfield, with a what was described by the adjudicator as ‘a well delivered performance’ under the baton of John Davies.
Hat trick
The win, helped by the contribution of 'Best Soloist' winner Emma Davies on horn, secured a hat trick of victories at the contest and enabled them to repel the strong challenge of second placed Hucknall & Linby, with debutants Dinnington in third.
Rolls Royce Derby put in a solid performance to come fourth, just ahead of the highest placed Fourth Section band Deepcar.
Meanwhile, Newhall performed an all big band style set, remaining standing throughout their performance, whilst Oughtibridge put on a highly encouraging show to end just behind them.
In a wonderful Training Section contest, Thurcroft Training came out on top from Deepcar and Dronfield.
Long but enjoyable
Spokesperson Ian Knapton told 4BR: "It was a long but highly enjoyable weekend for the members of organisers Ireland Colliery Chesterfield Band. There was the very first music and real ale weekend, a rock band, a solo, duet and quartet contest with 92 entries and also the launch of the band’s latest CD!"
