Composer Dr Peter Meechan will be flying to Canada next week to hear the orchestral premiere performance of his trumpet concerto – although he will also hear the second one soon after!
Next day
Trumpet virtuoso Jens Lindemann will perform the work with the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra, conducted by William Eddins, on Saturday 12th November, although such is the demand for tickets to hear the orchestra in concert that the second performance will take place the very next day.
"I’m really looking forward to hearing the performances – not once but twice!" Pete told 4BR.
"The orchestra are a fantastic group and very willing to programme all different kinds of music. I’m very lucky to have such an amazing soloist too – it’s always great fun working with Jens, and I’m sure the audience will be in for a treat — not once but twice."

Workshops
Following the ESO’s performances, the composer heads to Saskatoon where he will spend the week working with local brass bands before judging and leading workshops at UNIFEST, held at the University of Saskatchewan.
Pete also revealed that he would also join Jens in crossing the border to the USA in December, where he will hear the star perform to at the Midwest Band and Orchestra Clinic, accompanied by Chicago Brass Band conducted by Colin Holman
Belgian trip
But the travelling doesn’t quite top there, as after a few days back home in Manchester, Pete heads out to Leuven to adjudicate at the Belgian National Brass Band Championships, where his work, ‘Fire in the Sky’ is the First Section set work.
