The Rainford Band has announced the retirement of Eb tuba player Martin Rigby, who has been a member of the band since it's formation in 1976.
Tribute
Paying tribute to Martin, MD Neil Samuel told 4BR: "Martin has been such a pleasure to work with. He has been fully committed to each and every performance. I will never forget what Martin has done for me over the years in his role as chairman — mainly keeping me in check!"
Despite his retirement, Martin will remain busy in his many other local community roles, especially helping elderly residents with the upkeep of their gardens.

Goodbye
The band has also said goodbye to solo euphonium player and associate conductor Steve March, who has left to pursue other interests.
Band Chairman Paul Rigby told 4BR: "We would like to thank Steve nd for all of his hard work and memorable performances on both the concert and contest stage. He is certainly going to be missed and we wish him well in his future ventures."
Replacing Steve will be another Steve — with Steve Gordon taking the solo euphonium chair from Greenalls Band.
The MD added: "Steve is the ideal man to replace Steve! He has great technique and a sound to match. I am looking forward to the points that he can add to the band during the new contest season".
Westacott help
With the new contest season fast approaching the band has engaged former Grimethorpe principal cornet Rob Westacott who will lead a number of cornet sectional rehearsals.
The band is also looking forward to welcoming Foden’s star Bb bass player Andrew Warriner and Fairey (Geneva) principal trombone player, Les Webb in assisting with contest preparation.
