Frank Renton and Michael Robertson are to be honoured by the Worshipful Company of Musicians.
Polymath
The popular Listen to the Band presenter will receive the Iles Medal for his services to the brass band movement in recognition of a polymath career that spans well over 50 years of playing, conducting, composing, arranging, teaching, broadcasting and presenting.
Considerable achievements
It is also a career that has combined considerable achievements in the military and the civilian music spheres, including becoming the Principal Director of Music to the Army and Director of the Royal Military School of Music at Kneller Hall, as well as conducting Grimethorpe Colliery Band to both the British Open and National Championships of Great Britain.

Outstanding contribution
Michael Robertson meanwhile will collect the Mortimer Medal for his outstanding contribution to the teaching of young people within the brass band movement.
An immensely successful and respected brass instructor, he has worked tirelessly with the National Youth Band of Scotland, the National Youth Wind Ensemble of Scotland and many other leading musical organisation.
Driving force
He has also been the driving force behind the remarkable progress made by the Carnoustie & District Youth Brass Band, which since its inception in 2008 has become one of the leading youth ensembles in the country leading to its becoming the 2011 Premier Section National Youth Champion of Great Britain.
