Whitburn shrugged off the disappointment of their recent relegation from the British Open, by taking the honours and the £800 top prize at the Brass in the Park March & Hymn tune contest at the Scottish Mining Museum in Newtongrange on the weekend.
Clear margin
Conducted by Archie Hutchinson, they took the honours by a clear three point winning margin over rivals Unison Kinneil, with St David’s Brass taking a number of impressive scalps to claim the final podium place.
Kingdom Brass Youth, conducted by Anne Crookston took the prize in the Novice class, whilst St. Ronan's Future Band (David Robb) took the honours in the Development Section.
Dalmellington Junior Band (Ian Taylor) came out on top in the Seniors, whilst West Lothian Schools (Nigel Boddice) took the top prize in the Premier section.

Section awards went to Broxburn & Livingston (First Section), Selkirk Silver (Second Section), St David’s Brass (Third Section), Langholm Town (Fourth Section) and West Calder (Non contesting)
Solo awards were claimed by Iain Fleming of Whitburn and Christopher Hamilton of Unison Kinneil.
The Festival took place for the first time at the Scottish Mining Museum in Newtongrange.
