The newly crowned British Open champions, Tredegar, has confirmed that they will be making their first contesting appearance since victory at Symphony Hall in Birmingham, at the Wychavon Festival of Brass in Evesham on the weekend.
Insistent
Following their success the band had been inundated by requests to perform at functions to display the British Open Shield, but MD Ian Porthouse was insistent that the band honour their commitment to the contest, despite work already starting on their preparations for the National Finals at the Royal Albert Hall.
Commitment
Band Secretary Mark Winstone told 4BR: "It’s been so hectic in the last week, with the band having to turn down a number of requests to perform at functions as well as enjoying an increased media profile.
"Ian felt that it was right that the band honour its commitment to the Wychavon Contest, which has been very supportive in the last few years. We’re delighted to be able to compete and defend our title – and we won’t be taking anything for granted."
A great deal of hard work and organisation has gone into the event this year, and we hope their (Tredegar's) participation will help draw even more listeners to both venues over the weekendClive Allen
Boost
The news comes as a boost for the contest, which has suffered a number of withdrawals in recent weeks, including from the Championship Section.
Festival organiser Clive Allen told 4BR: "We are delighted that Tredegar, as British Open champion, has confirmed its support of the contest. A great deal of hard work and organisation has gone into the event this year, and we hope their participation will help draw even more listeners to both venues over the weekend."
