On the 11th and 12th of this month a Symposium entitled ‘Wind Bands in Cross-Cultural Perspective’, will be held at Queen’s University Belfast.

The event is sponsored by the School of History and Anthropology and the Queen’s Internationalization Fund and will explore the range of issues of ethnomusicological, anthropological and sociological interest in addition to theoretical and methodological orientations opened up by the neglected field of wind and brass band research.

During the symposium there will be discussions and revision of materials that will be included in a book compendium of information and topics relevant to performance practice in global wind and brass band phenomena.
In addition there will be a number of concerts and opportunities to meet and discuss matters associated with bands, where ever they originate.
