Wessex Winter Contest

Plenty of time to get your entries in for November — plus a great Youth training contest in December too.

 

The Wessex Brass Band Association is holding its annual Winter Contest on Saturday 28 November at the Pavilion, The Esplanade, Weymouth.

The adjudicator this year will be Stan Lippeatt.

The choice of test piece for bands can be either one which is appropriate for their national grading or alternatively, they are free to select a piece from a higher level of difficultyOrganisers

Test pieces

Each band will enter under its recognised national grading. The choice of test piece for bands can be either one which is appropriate for their national grading or alternatively, they are free to select a piece from a higher level of difficulty.

However they will be judged in the Section that they are nationally graded, not the Section of the selected test piece.

The bands will pre-draw and play continually one after another.

Youth & Training Band Contest:

The Wessex Brass Band Association will be holding a Youth & Training Band Contest again this year on Saturday, 31 October 2009 at The Trafalgar School, Breamore Road, Downton, Salisbury.

The contest will be an Own choice programme to include two versus of a hymn tune with a maximum of 20 minutes and not less than 15 minutes programme time (to include setting up time and introductions).

If an organisation enters a Youth and a Training Band each must play a different programme.

Harlow Brass Band

February 27 • We are a friendly, non-contesting band who have the following vacancies:. Trombones, 2nd Horn, Back Row Cornets, Percussion. . We rehearse every Thursday in Harlow, 8-10pm and play at local events throughout the year.


Newmarket Town Band

February 27 • Newmarket Town Band is inviting applications for the post of 'Musical Director'. We are a non-contesting band who play to a high standard with regular bookings throughout the year. Rehearsals are held on Wednesdays 7:30 - 9:30pm


Banks Brass Band

February 25 • It's not too late to join Banks Brass Band, a friendly non-contesting band near Southport. All players welcome particularly euphoniums, trombones and basses. Rehearsals: Mondays 8.00-9.30pm in the Hub@Banks community centre, PR9 8BL
