Results: SCABA Folkestone

A great turn out of bands at Folkestone at the weekend, witn Friary Guildford taking the top honours ahaed of their trip to Prestatyn and their Pontins challenge.

The Southern Counties Brass Band Association welcomed 31 bands to its annual Autumn Contest at the Leas Cliff Hall in Folkestone on the weekend.

Strongest

Adjudicator Roy Sparkes was on hand to sort the bands into order of merit and he reported that he was extremely impressed with the Second Section on Saturday and felt that this section was the strongest of the weekend.

Complimentary

He was very complimentary on both their choice of test piece which he said had in all cases been chosen wisely and also the quality of their playing.

Another welcome visitor was Phillip Watson from the British Federation. He spoke to the bands at each prize giving and also presented some of the awards.

Concert

Brass Band Heist from Belgium, who had an excellent contesting day on Sunday, gave a short concert on Saturday evening prior to the Second Section results.

'Mode for …', sponsored the Youth Section by offering all competing youth bands a £50 voucher to purchase music from their catalogue an agreement that will continue for the three main contests in 2009.

This was the first contest for SCABA’s new Contest Manager Jane Stewart who said she was really pleased with the weekend and thanked the ‘Team’ for their hard work and support.
