All change at Coalburn

A whole host of changes at Coalburn puts Scottish champs in strong position throughout their organisation.

Scottish Third Section Band of the year 2007, Coalburn Silver has announced a number of changes in personnel.

New players

Ex Scottish Co-op player Andy Dorricott jopins on baritone, Jack Boddice, ex member of the West Lothian Schools joins on Bb Bass, Kyle McQuoradale joins through the Bronze Band and Danny Brown returns on Eb Bass.

The band has also announced the return, following illness, of cornet player and band stalwart Derek Blackwood who has stepped back in on the front row with Jayne Brownlie filling the 2nd trombone berth.

Meanwhile, the Bronze Band has a new look with Jayne Brownlie coming on board to assist in the running and development of their future players4BR

Reshuffle

A reshuffle within the band sees ex band conductor Erik Kerr move to principal euphonium and he is joined by current Lesmahagow High School Young Musician of the year, David Fehilly.

Elizabeth Meikle has moved to the solo trombone position and the young and talented Euan Meikle has moved from 2nd cornet to the repiano cornet seat.

Silver newcomers

The Silver Band have also welcomed three young players from the Bronze Band, who are ‘sitting in’ at present to gain experience. Cornet players Ailsa Frew and Pamela Daly have been joined by baritone player Kirsty Mathieson.

Bronze direction

Meanwhile, the Bronze Band has a new look with Jayne Brownlie coming on board to assist in the running and development of their future players.

Jayne holds a B.A. in Musical studies, A.L.C.M. she is a brass instructor employed by South Lanarkshire Council as well as an accomplished Tenor Trombone player.

The band also thanked Jim and Joanne Buchanan and Chris Downing who have moved to Barrhead Burgh Band and to Pamela Cairns who is currently taking a break from banding.

February 26 • There will be two full days of competitive and non-competitive music making at the 2026 Scottish Championship in Perth.

Line-ups for North of England Area confirmed

February 26 • 42 bands will take to the stage in Durham to try and claim their places at London and Cheltenham later in the year.

Banks Brass Band

February 25 • It's not too late to join Banks Brass Band, a friendly non-contesting band near Southport. All players welcome particularly euphoniums, trombones and basses. Rehearsals: Mondays 8.00-9.30pm in the Hub@Banks community centre, PR9 8BL
