Vinter focus at 2009 Festival of Brass

The music of Gilbert Vinter will be featured at the 2009 Festival of Brass.

The 2009 Festival of Brass to be held at the Royal Northern College of Music will feature some of the worlds top bands and composers, according to event director Paul Hindmarsh.

Bands

The band staking part in the event next year will include Black Dyke, Desford, Fodens Richardson, Leyland, Fairey and Brighouse & Rastrick.

Although Cory were unable to attend due to a prior engagement and Griethorpe turned down their invitation this year, Paul Hindmarsh has much to savour. "I am looking forward to welcoming two bands that have shown so much improvement over the past year or so."

Soloists

On the soloists front, Rex Richardson, will deliver the world premiere of the trumpet concerto by Pete Meechan with Fodens, whilst Katrina Marzella, will perform the UK concert premiere of the Baritone Concerto by Martin Ellerby.

Major contributions

There will also be major contributions from Lisi Sarasini, who plays ‘Freaks’ by Gavin Higgins, David Thornton, with the premiere of Peter Graham’s Concerto and Mike Howley who will play the Horovitz Euphonium Concerto with Brighouse & Rastrick..

Themes

The themes for 2009 will centre on the music of Gilbert Vinter, in celebration of the 100th anniversary of his birth, as well as Philip Wilby (60 this year), John McCabe (70) plus extensive music from the 1970s and first performances.
