On an overcast Saturday evening on the weekend, and to a packed hall, Gresley Colliery Band bought reminiscences of summer holidays spent in far away places with their concert entitiled 'Music for a Summer’s Evening’.
Transported
The audience were transported to hot, sunny climes with a mixture of swing, traditional and classical pieces such as ‘Malaguena’ and reminded of more exotic locations with excerpts from ‘A Little Russian’.
There were also solos by the band’s new principal cornet Chris North who played his own arrangement of ‘I Dreamt I Dwelt in Marble Halls’, as well as other solos by Ian Dawn on soprano, Carole Crompton on baritone and Sheila Winter on horn.

Youth force
Gresley Youth Band also showed how much they had progressed under the musical direction of Pete Hylton, with a programme including the Beatles ‘Yesterday’ and the theme music to the television programme ‘Ground Force’.
Rip roaring
Finally, the evening was bought to rip roaring close with the quick march ‘The Waltonian', which brought the audience on their feet asking for more.
